Ah… this engagement session… we started off at the Mission in San Juan Capistrano, before we headed down to the beach… Ok, so fess up time- as a wedding photographer I find myself guilty of writing very nicey, nicey blog posts about the lovely weather, and the beautiful location, and everything else under the sun, leaving out the one thing that matters. So let me re-start this blog post with this:
“I see myself forever and ever … in love with love, always in search of the absolute, always seeking the unattainable” (Henry Miller, “Stand Still Like the Hummingbird”).
I think of this quote a lot when I photograph, and more so when I get home and see in front of me the emotions we have captured on the day. The one second when the couple in front of my camera have forgotten that I am there, and just let go of everything else than the knowledge that they are here, today, with the one person they want to spend the rest of their life with. I am fascinated by that moment. No, mesmerized. There is something about observing people at their most vulnerable, when the guard is down for a second, that truly makes my heart skip a beat with joy. I cherish those moments, and even more so the images that reflect those moments.
So every engagement session like this, oh man… I really feel it tugging at my heart every time I look at it. Hopefully I am not the only one who feels like this, and you, as the viewer, will know exactly what I mean by the end of this blog post.
